Trying to be better than I was a day ago.
Building character is super important for our personal growth and development. It's not just about how we act, but it also affects how we treat others and deal with life's ups and downs. When we work on our character, we become better decision-makers, show empathy towards others, and make a positive impact on society. Plus, it helps us build strong relationships and create a more peaceful community.
I'm an Internship junior coordinator and TEA. As a JC, I'm going through (Train the Trainer) and learning how to be a good trainer/mentor.
I want to be remembered as someone who always took initiative. Whether it was in pursuing my dreams, helping others, or facing challenges, I strive to be proactive and decisive. I don't want to ever waste an opportunity. I want to make an impact on the world around me.
The most valuable life lesson I've learned is that people don't take things as seriously as you might. Often, I find myself dwelling on past mistakes, berating myself for not handling situations differently. However, in truth, most of the time, others don't really care. Once you learn to accept that, you can focus less on the past and more on what you're doing now.
My favorite character and the TV show by the same name, is and always will be Veronica Mars, (even though I did watch The Summer I Turned Pretty in one sitting.)
This sounds really weird but soup. Soup has everything, vegetables, noodles, whatever you want to put in. It's one food but there are a million different meals within that one food.
Joining the HIM leadership team has not only brought out leadership and organizational skills in me, it's allowed me to form connections with other high schoolers passionate about service, from schools across the Bay Area. Everyone in the leadership crew is always so genuinely friendly, excited to answer your questions or just chat! I really feel like I could start talking to anyone, and we'd be instant friends. You can do amazing, powerful work for the Bay Area and also have such a fun time!
HIM has given me a chance to do what I love, forming bonds with other teens, to make my community a safer, happier place. As a JC, I've noticed a huge improvement in my communication skills, and alongside that, my confidence. HIM doesn't treat you like you're a "kid" or someone who can't handle responsibility, you are treated like a professional.
Knowing that I'm going to do something, sometimes even before 8 am. After a Charity Run, I always feel so accomplished. There's something different about being able to see the work that you're doing in the moment, to interact with the athletes, to see how excited their family is to see them finish a race.
Go for it! You don't need a long resume of background experience, just commitment to your community and an eagerness to learn. All my friends who have been hesitant about joining the leadership team at first were so glad they did. They even regretted not joining it earlier!
