If I became invisible for 10 minutes right now, I think I would just continue to do what I’m currently doing, which is typing this out a contemplating my life. (just kidding.) I would rather be finding a place with a nice view of the night sky and just taking a moment to just enjoy and take in the outdoors. I feel like being invisible would be a great way to be alone, but 10 minutes is such a small period of time that there’s barely enough to do anything.
In a way, I think that I motivate myself the most. I think I’m always kind of competing with myself, pushing myself to try to do more and better things in life. I don’t want to fall short of other’s expectations, much less my own, as unrealistic as they may be.
I think it’s important to build character, but not something that you should be fixated on. It’s something that develops over time, and is unique to every person.
I am currently an Events APM (Acting Program Manager) and an EA (Executive Assistant). I’m currently learning about the different responsibilities of being an Events PM, like making announcements about new events, making the events docs, and evaluating officers that I’m working with. I feel irresponsible saying this, but a lot of the time I feel like I don’t know what I’m supposed to do in my position.
I don’t want to be remembered, I just want the things I did to leave a positive impact and to be able to help others without me present.
I think I would eat rice for the rest of my life if I couldn’t eat any other food. Rice is so versatile. For example, you can make fried rice. And even fried rice itself is versatile, since you can put almost anything in it. Strangely enough, I probably only eat rice like two to three times a week…
It’s pretty fun! You get to make lots of new friends, work with all kinds of people, and do a lot of different tasks. There’s the more office-like work online and then we do all kinds of things when we’re volunteering.
I think HIM has pushed me to try to do new things and changed my sleep schedule. I think I was less outspoken before HIM and overall less willing to talk to people I wasn’t familiar with, but now I think I’m less scared to talk to strangers. Then, my sleep schedule has definitely changed. Even though events aren’t actually super frequent, I think I’ve become less of a morning person after joining HIM. Weird, since a lot of events make us get up at like 4-5, but it just made me realize I need more sleep than I think.
To those thinking about joining the Leadership Program, go for it! You never know until you try. As an intern, you can see what each department does and look for a place where you think you can fit in. Even if you end up leaving Leadership, you’ll still have gained some new skills along the way.
