Events Junior Coordinator
Balboa High School
Class of 2023
If I was invisible for 10 minutes, I would test if I could pass through things or not. If I could, it would be fun to pass through walls. If not, I would lift random things in front of people to give them a scare. I would also want to see what happens if I try to drink water.
What motivates me the most is computer science. Computer science has the power to change the world with tech. The people I've also met in the tech industry were really nice and it gave me a wonderful experience in computer science. Their kindness is a reminder that my efforts don't go in vain.
I think it's really important to 'build character'. The character you build around yourself may allow you to collaborate with others more easily. It's a way to express yourself and show others who you are. The character defines you as a person with personality with a positive attitude.
My current HIM position is a Junior Coordinator in the Events Department and additionally the public relations of the Balboa HIM club. As a junior coordinator, I would contact volunteers to confirm if they can still make it to an event. Another responsibility would be check if volunteers' waivers were submitted. Getting the task done in a timely manner is crucial part of the process because we are being relied on. Being the PR of my club also comes with great responsibility, since I send out emails informing our members about our monthly meetings. It's also important to continue keeping them engaged through our Instagram page too.
The most valuable lesson I've learned in my life was to start early. Not starting early on certain things made me regret and realize how much I've limited my options. Starting early gives you an advantage and to devise a plan for backup. So it's better to start early than late since it can negatively impact you.
If I could only eat one food for the rest of my life, it would be pork with veggies and rice. The reason being so is because pork is really good and it doesn't feel complete without the veggies and rice. Fried pork is especially the best and I also like cooked lettuce. The white rice serves well with the rest of the food which also makes it a fulfilling meal.
Being a HIM Leadership Crew is an unforgettable experience. The leadership program trains you in valuable skills that can be useful later in life. I've learned a lot about Google Sheets and Dropbox. I find those tools to be great organizing tools that can be used for yourself or with others.
HIM has had a large impact on me. I felt that without Heart in Motion, I wouldn't have as much to do. I felt that there wouldn't be as many learning opportunities as I would have now. Neither would I have felt that I would have the essential skills needed to be professional.
It's a great opportunity to be a part of this internship. I would advise to try your best and take every offer you get. Rather than missing an opportunity, it's better to take a risk and try it out first. You never know the outcomes until you try.
