Internship Senior Coordinator & Executive Assistant
Lowell High School
Class of 2023
I would most likely first panic. After calming down, I would FaceTime one of my friends and mess with them. Calling them, I would flip my camera and hold it towards my closet with mirror sliding doors and just freak them out. Once one of them hangs up, I will FaceTime another friend and continue to mess with everyone until I become visible again.
I have a few things that motivate me. They include my friends and my father, but what motivates me the most is the thought of achieving my goal, with the support of those closest to me. Knowing if what I do will be worth it in the future, will motivate me, even through really rough times.
I think it's really important. It could honestly change your life. Through the experiences you go through, you can become a better person. With everything around you, you can pick up a few things and make that you. Your characteristics make you unique and special. Taking risks and putting yourself out there can have a big impact on you.
I am currently an Executive Assistant and an Internship Department Senior Coordinator. I work as an Acting Internship Department Program Manager however. I am also currently a Team Leader on the Kahoot Group, Manager of the Slides Project, and a Speaker on the Video Production Team.
As an Executive Assistant, I help oversee all 4 departments of HIM and lead the other Executive Assistants when there is a Notion related task. As a Team Leader on the Kahoot Group, I lead my team in recreating the Kahoots we use during lessons and organize the information. As the Manager of the Slides Project Team, I work aside my 2 Assistants to plan the recreations of the slides we give new interns and use to teach. I oversee my 2 Team Leaders and their members and give assistance whenever needed.
As an Acting Program Manager, I manage 15 new interns and Junior/Senior Coordinators in the Internship Department. I attend Train the Trainer zoom sessions, monitor lessons, and give constructive feedback to everyone I am monitoring. I schedule one on one check-ins with everyone and check up on them. I use this time to connect with everyone as their friend, not their manager.
I want to be remembered as someone who was always so positive, kind, and always there when others were going through rough times. I want to be remembered as the woman who always gave it her all and exceeded the expectations of others, and proved all who doubted her wrong. Someone who was extremely passionate about film and acting, who never gave up on her dreams. I want to be remembered as the woman who broke the beauty standards for women, and show that all body types are beautiful.
To enjoy yourself while you still have time. I've never really gave this sentence that much thought before, but after I've started mainly focusing on my studies and extracurriculars, I barely have time for myself now. My mind has been on college and getting straight As for months now. I always find myself working, whether it's on homework, internship assignments, chores, etc. I barely enjoy myself as a teen. I don't know how much time I have left in this world before I have to go, but, I do know that I don't want to spend it working.
One of my favorite TV shows is (and will always will be) "The Untamed". Most people I know will know that I love "The Untamed", and can talk about it for hours. One of my favorite characters is Lan Sizhui! He is adorable and so pure. He cares a lot about his peers and has a great friendship with Lan Jingyi (a friendship I want :( ). Another one of my favorite characters is Xiao Xingchen. He is so kind and pure hearted. He will help anyone in need and I wish I had an older brother like him.
This is a hard question. I'm quite picky and don't really like to try new things. I think if I could only eat one food for the rest of my life, it would be sushi. I really enjoy eating Japanese food, especially sushi. There are a lot of different kinds and I'll never get sick of eating it.
It's an interesting experience. There are a lot of opportunities that can come your way when you're a part of the HIM Leadership Crew. It's very inspiring the more you stay in HIM. You meet a lot of amazing people from different backgrounds who do a lot of different, yet amazing things in and out of Leadership. You communicate and bond with other members that can be older, or younger than you. There are a lot of people in the organization, and you may not be able to meet everyone. But with the people you do meet and get a chance to work with, you may form a really strong bond and connection.
HIM has really helped me improve on my leadership, communication, and public speaking skills. I remember when I was first a Summer '20 A Intern, I was so shy and hated the thought of becoming a teacher and having to teach new interns. However, I had to face my fears. During the Summer '20 B term, I was 1 of the 3 "unlucky" new Junior Coords who had to teach a make-up lesson after being trained on how to teach. I was so nervous during that night, but ended up doing a better job than I expected. I enjoyed teaching.
During the Fall '20 term, I was a teacher, as well as a part of the First Generation Notion Committee as an Executive Assistant. Granted, I personally think I was a bad teacher, but it was practice for me to improve my public speaking skills. As time went on, I had many opportunities to lead and of course, had to communicate with other members of Leadership. I ended up becoming a Team Leader of the Kahoot Group and had a chance to lead 22 Executive Assistants to build our page on Notion. Along the way, I met a lot of amazing people and strengthened the bond with people I already knew. I met people who I think will remain by my side for as long as I live. They're all so supportive and assist me when I'm having a hard time.
It's the thought of helping people and seeing them smile. I always want to make our community a more safe and fun place. The thought of being able to volunteer and see the people around me smile really motivates me to wake up earlier than 1 in the afternoon, and get up on my feet to start the day. I haven't volunteered through HIM yet since I joined during the middle of a pandemic. Despite that, I am really excited to start volunteering and helping out the community.
Do it!! HIM Leadership is an amazing opportunity! You meet a lot of amazing and wonderful people in this program. Everything may seem really confusing at first, but later on, it'll make more sense! You'll have countless chances to practice and improve essential skills such as communication, time management, and public speaking. You'll also develop new skills along the way. In HIM, you also have a lot of chances to use other platforms such as Dropbox, Notion, Remind, Google Suite, and more!
I've met and connected with so many amazing people in HIM. I remember that I was hesitant to stay in HIM when I heard about the long orientation, and how frequent lessons were. But after all of that, I was presented with the golden ticket of opportunities and had a long line of people I would eventually meet and form really strong connections with!
