Internship Senior Coordinator & Executive Assistant

I would probably walk around and try out my new ability. I would want to go eat something or to stand in front of one of my family members to see if they notice. Maybe even pet my cat and hope she didn't get spooked (she doesn't like being pet very much)!
I believe my motivation stems from my goals and my passions. Even though following through with my goals isn't always easy, I push through it because I know it will pay off in the end. After all, the more consideration and effort you put into an activity, the more you get out of it. Having fun is also a factor! With Heart In Motion, I enjoy doing satisfying tasks and bestowing my knowledge of leadership upon others!
I think building character is a part of life that everyone goes through at some point. It is one of the ways that we grow as human beings, and learn from our tendencies. Thus, I believe that building character is important! Heart in Motion has helped me to reflect on my tendency of indecisiveness, which has helped me to become more confident!
This term, I am an Internship Senior Coordinator and an Executive Assistant. Since I am an EA (and an upcoming Acting Internship Program Manager), the majority of the work I do involves overseeing the mentoring, teaching, and training processes in the Internship department. I give feedback, and step in if anything goes wrong. I also help out with the other departments, such as Membership, Events and Outreach.
I want to be remembered as someone who is kind and precise, and as someone who follows through. I also want to be remembered as someone did her part to help all living things on this planet.
One of the most valuable lessons I've learned is to not get lost in details of the future, and to enjoy the present moment. Too often I find myself worrying about something that hasn't happened yet, when I could be enjoying what is happening here, and now.
My favorite TV show is Anne with an E (on Netflix) or Downton Abbey (I know, period pieces!). My favorite character in Anne with an E is either Cole, Jerry, or Ms. Stacey. My favorite character in Downton Abbey is Tom Branson, Sybil, or Anna.
This is a tough question! I love so many foods! But I love pasta slightly more than all the other foods, so really I would be willing to eat any pasta for the rest of my life. But right now, I am really digging this dish called curry udon. It has all of the elements in it: produce, protein, spice, and noodles! You should try it sometime :)
To be part of the Leadership Crew is really inspiring. Before this year, I've never seen so many youth run such an organized and successful organization! I've learned a lot from the people I've been around. Many experienced members of HIM Leadership have given me valuable advice that has helped me improve my presentation and management skills. We Leadership Officers lead each other by example, and we help each other when things get tough. One thing that has thoroughly impressed me about Leadership is the kindness of all of the Officers and Interns. I have made many friendships virtually in HIM that I would have never made otherwise. It's really something to be part of an organization where everyone is on your side!
Before I joined HIM in Summer 2020, I had never really been able to focus on my management and presentation skills. HIM has given me an opportunity to really reflect on my tendencies in presenting and leading, and improve on them. For example, I learned that in order to be an effective leader/presenter, you have to be decisive. Even if you have made a mistake, don't doubt yourself for it. I have had issues with this in the past, but since I have started HIM, I have become more confident. Secondly, within HIM I have made multiple friendships that I would never have made otherwise. Especially during quarantine, HIM has been an amazing way to be a part of a community and be productive at the same time.
To those thinking of joining Leadership, I feel ya! I was once in your position - I really deliberated a lot before I joined. But once I got to the Internship, I realized it was worth it! First off, for those worried about time, the lessons for Internship are around 30 minutes a day for 6 days a week, which is not too much of a time commitment. Even if you have other extracurriculars to do, I believe you could still find time for Leadership! Secondly, I believe if you put effort into what you are doing in HIM and check workplace frequently, you will go very far! I personally got picked as an EA for being detail-oriented and following through with tasks, and that could be you, too! A hot tip for Workplace/Workchat (the platform we use to communicate): install the app(s) on your phone, and it will be a lot easier to manage the incoming messages! Lastly, HIM offers a variety of different outlets for different skillsets. For example, for all of those who are artistic and like to make flyers, then you can join the Outreach Department after the Internship! Or if you like teaching, then you can be an Internship Department Officer! There are many different ways for you to be successful and to find your personal path in Leadership! But your first step is to join HIM!
